California’s Department of Justice has documented inadequate medical care, unsafe food and water, unsanitary conditions and barriers to detainees contacting lawyers and family members.
Four men died at the facility between September 2025 and March 2026. The concerns have continued despite court intervention. Detainees and their attorneys have reported problems with drinking water and other basic conditions even after a federal judge ordered ICE to make improvements, while ICE and the private company operating Adelanto have disputed allegations that the facility is failing to meet required standards.
